Jonathan: A story of struggle that reminds us why we keep going

Every February we commemorate the fight against childhood cancer, a date that invites us not only to reflect, but also to act. At Vidawasi we want to share the story of Jonathan, a child who symbolizes the strength and unwavering love of thousands of Peruvian families.

When he was just seven years old, Jonathan was diagnosed with a brain tumor. His family, from Catacaos, Piura, visited hospitals and doctors for weeks without finding a solution. Time passed, resources dwindled, and despair grew. Like many parents, his mother just wanted a chance to save her son.

Thanks to the joint work with our allies, Jonathan found a space of hope in Vidawasi: a health citadel that warmly welcomes, offers specialized medical care, and provides an environment that fosters peace and confidence. Here, every corner is designed to make children feel at home while receiving the attention they deserve.

To date, we have provided more than 50,000 specialized pediatric services, and we continue to strive to expand our services with the High Complexity Pediatric Surgery Pavilion. This new infrastructure will allow children from all over the country to receive quality care without having to travel to Lima.

Each story like Jonathan’s drives us to continue building a Peru where children’s health is a right, not a privilege.
